The 2006 NASCAR Busch East Series has been one filled with ups and downs for John Freeman. Saturday night’s race at Adirondack was another one of those up and down times, full of trials and tribulations for Freeman but in the end he was able to tough it out for a top-15 finish.
“We ran at Adirondack Speedway,” said Freeman. “It was definitely a different track for us, mostly a circle no real straightaways. It was all about hanging it out there sideways and getting yourself around there pretty quick and it took me a little while in practice to get the hang of it.”
Freeman put up a good qualifying effort, earning an eighth place starting position. Once the race got underway his car got that much better and it looked as if Freeman had a shot at the win.
“We ended up qualifying eighth which we were happy with, During the race we had a really good car out on the track, That track really depends on if you can start on the inside or the outside to whether you are going to fall back or gain five spots so it’s the luck of the draw on the restarts, and track position and we probably deserved a good top-10.
“We were running sixth at one point, and we just drove around in there. We got involved in an incident in turn four where a car thought they were clear from me, I guess, and took us out. We spun out, went a lap down and ended up getting the lucky dog so we were back on the lead lap. We made it up to the top-10 when the red flag came out.”
John Freeman's #5.
After already beating one obstacle in the race, Freeman’s night of trials was not quite over as the final one would come on the last lap.
“We were sitting in the top 10 and we were working our way up. And coming off of turn four and the guy behind us got into us and turned us around. We got T-boned right before the line, and ended up finishing 14th, the last car on the lead lap. It was a good points day but the car had lots of damage. We didn’t get the finish that we were hoping for or that showed where we were running, but hopefully we can go get ‘em next time.”
The NASCAR Busch East Series returns to action on August 19th at Waterford Speedbowl located in Waterford, CT.
