When the NASCAR Busch East Series visited New Hampshire International Speedway in July, rookie John Freeman finished an eye-opening seventh in the 125-lap event. It was the first time that the 19-year-old driver had ever visited the one-mile track.
Obviously, Freeman wants to finish even better this time there. So in preparation for this Saturday’s Sylvania 125, he has adopted the motto “If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em” and aligned himself with the same team that finished one spot ahead of him in July. FitzBradshaw Racing fielded the sixth-place entry for Ruben Pardo in July’s race and now Freeman will team up with Pardo for the remainder of the 2006 season starting at NHIS.
Freeman will drive the #22 Supercuts/Family Dollar Dodge Charger for FitzBradshaw, which also fields two NASCAR Busch Series teams. He is looking forward to the depth of the organization.
“They go to New Hampshire every year and they finished in the top 10 of the
Busch East race there in July,” said Freeman. “The team has plenty of
knowledge of the track and I’m excited about joining them. We can go out
there and show what we can do and New Hampshire will be our first step in
that process.
“With the new equipment that I’m going to have and the pit stops that we’ll
have, I think that we really have a chance to win.
There couldn’t be a better place for Freeman’s big team debut. He enjoyed
racing at New Hampshire back in July and found his style of driving well
suited for the facility.
“New Hampshire is great,” said Freeman. “I loved it and it was incredible to
race there. I had a good car and I was a little nervous going into the race
last time because it was a new track and a new experience. But we
adapted pretty quickly and showed it with a seventh-place finish. I’m
looking forward to going back and bettering my finish the second time there.”
Racing in front of an audience made up of NASCAR Nextel Cup and
Craftsman Truck Series teams is another plus to racing at New Hampshire.
“New Hampshire is the biggest track that I have run so far and we will be there when all of the big guys are at it, so it would be a good place to kind of show them what we have and a little bit about ourselves.
The Sylvania 125 will take place at NHIS on Saturday September 16th. The race will be broadcast live and in high definition at 12pm on HDNet.
