FREEMAN MAKES MOVE UP TO BUSCH EAST SERIES
Like many drivers, John Freeman is a driver looking at moving up. Yet unlike many drivers, the youngster is accomplishing his mission. His next venture does have him moving up; both in series stature and literally, up north.
The Carolina native will be moving up to New England and the home of Motion Racing. Together they have announced their intentions to compete for the NASCAR Busch East Series Rookie of the Year crown. Motion Racing achieved that honor in 2005 with driver Sean Caisse.
“We have put together a deal with Motion Racing and Barney McRae,” said 19-year-old Freeman. “As of now, we are lined up to run the first six races, with the intent to run the full year. We are hoping to secure additional sponsorship.
“A lot of NASCAR officials told me the Busch East Series is the way to go. Several successful drivers have evolved from this series. It’s grown into a really competitive series and I feel it is a great place to gain experience needed to pursue my dream of racing."
The Busch East series, formerly known as the Busch North Series, has changed names this year and has also expanded the area in which it races. The first race will be held in an untraditional location for the series, at Greensville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina on June 10th. To prepare for the event and to make the transition to the
Busch East Series smoothly, Freeman has a plan to help him prepare for his initial race.
“I am going to take my Late Model Stock car to Greenville and we are hoping to run two shows with the car we ran at Concord last year.”
While the first race is still a few months away, preparations are beginning now. Driving for a new team will also bring some more changes for Freeman, as the teenager is preparing to make the move north to work with his new team full-time.
“The team I am driving for is in Milton, Vermont, so I am going to move up there,” added Freeman. "I am not big on driving a car that I haven’t had my hands all over, so a friend of mine and I are going to move up to Milton, Vermont and work full time in the race shop with the team and I am really looking forward to that.”
On moving north, Freeman has an optimistic outlook.
“I hear it's real pretty up there. I’ve been to Boston (MA) for the Red Bull Driver Challenge, but other than that I have never been up north so this ought to be really interesting for me.”
