John Freeman Continues Strong Shootout Showing With Second-Place Finish
Lowe's Motor Speedway Race Story
After being out of the Legends Car world for a few years, John Freeman has been turning heads this season with his strong runs in the Summer Shootout Series Pro division at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (NC). Freeman has already had multiple top-10 finishes, and on Tuesday in the seventh round of the series, Freeman tied his season’s best finish with a second.
On a night where the track was wet due to rain, Freeman finished behind Daniel Hemric, who is ranked as the top Pro driver in the country. Freeman had a chance to get Hemric at the end of the race, but the outside groove wasn’t the place to be.
"That outside line was slick,” said Freeman. “I knew it was going to be green-white-checkered, so we chose outside from second place to take a shot at him (Hemric). It seemed like he could motor on the straight-aways a little better than I could. We were handling really good through the corners. We definitely had a good car tonight, but we didn't quite have one to beat Hemric.
“We're going to get a chance here soon though. We're going to get it fast enough. All together it was a good points night in the end."
Freeman currently sits fourth in the championship points, just three points behind third and 16 points out of second with three races to go in the Summer Shootout.
The next race for Freeman will be the eighth round of the Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Tuesday, July 28th.
